Visit the Herschell Carrousel Manufacturing Museum in North Tonawanda, New York, which is only 25 minutes from Niagara Falls, NY, and have fun the way Americans did 100 years ago.
One of the last remaining wooden carrousel systems in the US is the museum. The structure now has a sizable carving studio, a woodworking studio, a paint studio, a storage space, an upholstery studio, a machine studio, and a roundhouse where carrousels were put together and tested before being shipped. The complex, which consists of seven connected buildings, previously held all of the Allan Herschell Company's industrial units. It is included on the National and New York State Registers of Historic Sites.
Enjoy everything inside, from sparkling carousels to academic archives. A 40-foot-diameter historical carrousel with 36 hand-carved horses and more than 580 lights, as well as a smaller Kiddie Carrousel made of 1940s aluminium, are both present at the Children's Gallery. In addition, have a look at the , which includes a picnic pavilion, an entrance building, and four restored children's attractions from the factory's postwar baby boom era.
A "D" band organ in the Artizan style is present. A unique display that demonstrates how carrousel music was created is the Wurlitzer Music Roll Department. See how the carrousel horses were carved out of blocks of wood in the wood-carving shop. Moreover, the 60-year evolution of carrousel animals is shown in the Lockman Collection.
